Supermarket staples proved a popular draw for October 2009. Unilever's imaginative iron-shaped mailer was a powerful promotion of the FMCG company's new laundry products and customers could redeem their vouchers online or in-store.

Waitrose also pushed consumers through its store doors, announcing the launch of its recession-beating Essentials range to existing customers with a booklet packed with discounts.
