Barclaycard loyalty scheme offers customers cashback
by MMC, 22-Mar-2010
Credit card giant Barclaycard has launched its new loyalty scheme, Barclaycard Freedom. Launched on 17 March, the programme will allow 8 million Barclaycard cardholders to earn up to £10 for every £1,000 they spend.
Reward Money is recorded in pounds and pence, with no vouchers or coupons to save or points to calculate. Instead, Barclaycard holders earn Reward Money when they use their existing Barclaycard to pay for goods and services at participating outlets.
Partners include Shell, npower, LA Fitness, Pizza Express and many small and medium-sized retailers that have never participated in a reward scheme before due to their size. Cardholders will earn 1% on purchases in most participating outlets (0.5% at Shell) alongside other special promotions and discounts in store.
In most participating retailers Barclaycard customers making a purchase will see the value of their Reward Money appear on the card machine before they enter their PIN to pay. They will then be able to redeem some or all of their Reward Money on that transaction, or continue to save up for a future purchase.
Sarah Newman, managing director of Barclaycard Freedom says: ‘The range of retailers in Barclaycard Freedom means that our customers can earn Reward Money when they are shopping on the high street, filling up the car, going out for a meal or shopping online. The simplicity of Barclaycard Freedom means that customers earn Reward Money without the need to do anything extra – they simply use their Barclaycard to make a purchase.’
