TDA wins Practical Action donor acquisition campaign
by MMC, 19-Mar-2010
Development charity Practical Action is rolling out a new donor acquisition programme that is expected to involve both online and offline activity. Direct marketing agency TDA will create and implement the campaigns and test new ways of fundraising.
The aim is to recruit supporters throughout 2010 while laying the foundations to build on these relationships and continue growing the donor base in future years.
Practical Action works with poor communities in the developing world to provide solutions to poverty through the use of simple technology. Traditionally, the charity has appealed to well-educated professionals aged 50 and over, often with an interest in science or engineering. The acquisition campaign will seek to appeal to and engage with similar types of audience on a larger scale.
Activity is still in the planning stages, but is likely to involve both offline and digital activity. A core aim will be the recruitment of long-term supporters. If initial activity is successful, it will feed into the ongoing supporter acquisition programme.
‘Practical Action believes in a sustainable and long-term approach to development,’ says Stephen Harvey, head of fundraising at Practical Action. ‘We are currently implementing over 100 projects worldwide, and to continue extending our support to more communities we need to secure regular funding from a wider donor base. TDA demonstrated excellent vision and set the scene for recruiting long-term supporters.’
